Mediation

How We Can Help You with Mediation

Mediation is a process for parties to resolve their disputes and restructure their family and their finances without going to court.  Mediators are neutral third parties who use their training and skills to guide the parties through civil discussions and negotiations and help the parties reach creative solutions to their problems.  However, keep in mind that this process may not be the best solution for couples with a history of serious domestic violence.

Mediation has many benefits.  They include:

  • It is far less costly than hiring attorneys to litigate in court.
  • It is confidential and private – no airing of family information in the public courtrooms.
  • You control your outcome instead of letting a stranger in a black robe make decisions about your life and your children.
  • You will get on with your life much more quickly.  Mediation is quick and convenient.  You can schedule on your terms and even have mediation sessions online using videoconferencing.
  • You keep your kids out of the fray and set the stage of civil co-parenting.
  • You will keep your dignity and sanity.  Courtroom battles, where you are pitted against your “adversary” and mudslinging is encouraged, take an emotional toll.

At Whitson & Tansey, we offer mediation of the following issues:  Divorce, Child Custody, Child and Spousal Support, Separation Agreements, Cohabitation Agreements, Prenuptial Agreements and Postnuptial Agreements.  We also help our client mediate modifications to existing court orders or agreements.
